Attribution and licence

MapRouter’s maps and search results come from OpenStreetMap, which is licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).

What to show

Wherever you show a map or results, show: © OpenStreetMap contributors, linked to https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright. MapLibre does this for you when you keep its attribution control visible. API responses include the text in an attribution field.

Storing results

You may store geocoding results, for example a store’s coordinates in your database, and use them in your app. If you collect many results into a database and publish that database, the ODbL’s share-alike terms apply to it: you must offer it under the ODbL too. Showing stored results in your app is not publishing a database.

Other data

Time zones come from timezone-boundary-builder, also under the ODbL. Map styles are based on the Protomaps basemap.

Terrain {#terrain}

Hillshading and 3D terrain in the outdoors styles use the open Terrain Tiles dataset from Mapzen, built from SRTM, GMTED, ETOPO1, NED, EU-DEM, ArcticDEM and other public elevation sources. Keep the “Elevation: Terrain Tiles (Mapzen)” credit that the style adds. The full list of sources and their credits is in the dataset’s attribution notes.
